health starts with science
Founded by Tom Slick in 1941, Texas Biomed is one of the leading independent biomedical research institutions in the United States. Texas Biomed is recognized within scientific and academic communities worldwide for the quality of its basic research into the nature, causes, prevention and eradication of disease.
Located on a 200-acre campus on the northwest side of San Antonio, Texas Biomed scientists are working to unlock the mysteries of biomedical science, advancing the development of preventions and cures for the diseases that plague our world. Each year, a multidisciplinary team of approximately 65+ doctoral-level scientists are engaged in more than 200 research projects and publish well over 100 articles in international scientific literature. Their explorations delve into the unanswered questions surrounding cancer, heart disease, diabetes, obesity, osteoporosis, infectious diseases such as AIDS and hepatitis, emerging diseases such as dengue and SARS, diseases of the premature newborn and genetics, the new frontier in science. And of course, most recently, with an intense focus on COVID-19.
